WoWLAN Cell Phones
VoWLAN or voice over WLAN is when you use a caling device and the voice is transmitted over WLAN (Wi-Fi). Simplified you could say VoWLAN is when you have Skype on a cell phone or some other device and then connect with WLAN (Wi-Fi).
Skype is VOIP (Voice over
IP) and VoWLAN is also conversations over the Internet, but over a Wi-Fi network.
You can have VoWLAN on any internet accessible
device, including a laptop, PDA or a cell phone. A cell phone with VoWLAN is also called a hybrid or a Wi-Fi phone.
VoWLAN and 3G have
similarities, but VoWLAN uses a wireless internet network (typically 802.11) rather than a cell phone network. |
