What is the Model Number of Your Nokia?

Nokia 71

If you forgot what Nokia model you have just open the "hood" and you should find the model number. The model (in this picture N71) number is usually located under the battery.

And look - this Nokia is made in Finland! I guess I should be happy about this. At least when reading discussion forums it seems that some people care a lot about were their Nokia was manufactured. Some think that if your Nokia is made in Finland or any other European country itīs a sign of quality compared to phones manufactured in Asia. Well, I donīt know about that, but only a small percentage of Nokia phones are made here in NokiaLand, Finland anymore. So if your Nokia says Made in Finland I guess itīs a rarity. Maybe itīs like having your Swiss Army knife manufactured i Switzerland?

If your Nokia phone says Made in Finland I think it means that the phone was put together in Finland. You cannot say that a Nokia phone is all made in just one country anymore. The parts of the keyboard could be from China, the display from Taiwan and some other parts from Mexico or Brasil. Then the phone is put together in Finland, China, Hungary, Mexico or some other country. On some Nokia phones it says Made by Nokia - were is that?

Some people say you can tell which country the phone is manufactured in by checking the last numbers in the IMEI code (Mobile Equipment Identity). To get your phones IMEI code type *#06#. According to this theory you should look at the number 7 and 8 (YY) of your IMEI code. There must be some misunderstanding regarding this because there are phones that say Made in Finland and according to the IMEI code the country is Hungary. My IMEI code for a Nokia N70 says 00 and Made in Finland. Here is a list of the IMEI country numbers (note that this is speculation, not facts).

10 = Finland
20 = Germany
30 = Korea
40 = China
50 = Brazil, USA, Finland
60 = HK, China, Mexico
70 = Finland
80 = Hungary
91 = Finland

IMEI CODE
XXXXXX/YY/ZZZZZZ/A
XXXXXX = Type Appoval Code
YY = country
ZZZZZZ = serial number

More codes - The FCC ID number
What is the FCC ID number that you see on the picture above? Almost all hardware equipment have a FCC ID or code. This code is the register of the piece with the FCC (Federal Communications Commission). My Nokia N70 has the code FCC ID:QFXRM-84. When searching here I can see this FCC ID refers to my Nokia N70 phone. At the FFC web site you can get detailed technical info, pictures and the original user manuals. Useful?

Nokia Code
Another Useful Nokia Code
You might not get that much out of the above IMEI code, but to know your Nokias software version might be useful? Type *#0000# and you will get the software version of your phone. Today you can update your phone software on Nokia smartphones over the air. This means you can get new features, better performance or even better picture quality for the camera just by updating your phones software.
