Nokia 6233 Review

Hereīs my Nokia 6233 review. The Nokia 6233 is a classically designed candybar phone tailored for business and entertainment. According to Nokia the 6233 builds on the formula that made the Nokia 6230i so popular - classical design, feature-rich and an intuitive, easy to use interface.
Classical Design
The 6233 has a classical Nokia design, which I suppose means itīs a silver candybar phone, not light weight nor slim. You decide if this is good or bad. I donīt mind and think that the stainless steel frame that makes the phone somewhat heavier is just a sign of quality. The 6233 is a solid phone and has no gaps between parts. The buttons can be pressed without problem and usability is good.

Feature-rich Phone
The Nokia 6233 key features are:
- Up to 70MB total memory (6MB internal + 64MB memory card) for storing videos, pictures, and messages
- Supports up to 2GB of expandable, microSD memory
- 2-megapixel camera with 8x smooth, digital zoom and landscape mode
- FM radio
- MP3 music player (supports MP3, MP4, eAAC+ and AAC music files)
- Java email client and spam filter
- Supports video sharing, streaming, and recording (playback: 3GPP, H.263 video, MPEG-4, and AMR)
- Video, MP3, eACC+, and 64-bit polyphonic ringing tones
- WCDMA 2100 and tri-band GSM coverage on up to five continents (GSM/EDGE 900/1800/1900)
- Nokia Push to Talk
- Bluetooth
- Infrared
- USB port
- WAP 2.0, XHTML browser
- 3GPP video streaming
- Data Transfer
- EDGE Class 10 (4+1, 3+2): speed up to 236.8 kbps
- GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) class 10 (4+1, 3+2)
- HSCSD (High-Speed Circuit-Switched Data) transfer up to 43.2 kbps in HSCSD networks
- Vibrating alert
Intuitive easy to use interface
This is a a Series 40 3rd Edition phone with a new windows desktop like user interface. The 6233 has animated 3D menu and graphics. As I mentioned before the keypad was easy to use and the buttons are bigger that for example on the Nseries smartphones.
The 6233 Camera
The camera onboard is a high quality 2 megapixel camera. I donīt know if itīs exactly the same camera as on the N70, but quality is excellent for a mid-rande Nokia and good enough for printing. The camera has a 8x digital zoom and landscape mode. You can also print images directly from the phone over a Bluetooth connection or using an MMC (depending on the printer). The camera was easy to use due to the dedicated key for shooting pictures, something I miss on my N70. The lens has no cover and thatīs a pitty.

This beatiful Mustang (not mine :-) picture was taken with the Nokia 6233. More Nokia camera phone photos (look for 2 megapixel pictures / 6233).
Display
Active TFT colour display. QVGA 262,144 color, 320x240 pixel display.
Tailored for Business and Entertainment
This means that the 6233 has some pre installed business applications:
- Enhanced Java email client with easy settings and spam filter
- Data synchronization
- Visual Radio
- Wireless presenter
- Notepad and voice memo recorder
- Translator
- World Clock II
- Converter II
And some games; According to Nokia web site games included are Soccer 3D, Rally 3D and Snake III. The 6233 i used had Sudoku. And you can of course download new Java games to the phone. The phone has support for polyphonic midi ringtones, MP3, eAAC+, and message alerts and you can download of ringtones, themes and wallpapers over the air.
According to Nokia the Nokia 6233 offers 4 hours of talk time on GSM networks (more than 3 hours of talk time via WCDMA) and up to 2 weeks of standby time.
Nokia 6233 Video Review
